The Best Teaching Resources

By Sarah Fudin on November 14, 2011

Teaching is and will always be one of the most challenging and rewarding careers. Once a teacher steps into the classroom, he or she is faced equally with the prospect of great success and with the possibility of great frustration. Your students can either be a source of great pride and accomplishment, or aggravation and disappointment. And if the classroom wasn’t enough to worry about, teachers also have to make sure that they are up to date with their certification and education.

The field of education is always evolving, so teachers must stay abreast of what is most current in terms of both pedagogy and requirements. With this in mind, teachers should take every opportunity to use the resources that are at their disposal. To help make the teaching experience as rewarding as possible, here are three of the best online resources for teachers:

Teachade: The Online Community for Teachers
The boom in social media technologies has revolutionized the way we work, play and share. Teachers, like many others, have adopted these technologies in order to strengthen their network of colleagues around the world. Teachade is one the best social media platforms for teachers. It offers a bevy of resources like lesson plans, studies in education and even comprehensive curricula. By creating a Teachade account, you gain membership to a community of like-minded professionals who are online for the same reason as you. Through group forums, blog postings and uploaded resources you can gain invaluable insight into the world of teaching.

Certification Map
One thing that young teachers can tell you is that starting your career as an educator can be an extremely difficult process. If you don’t know when, how or where to begin, you may be faced with an unnerving task. But it need not be confusing; MAT@USC, a top tier Master’s in Teaching program delivered online, has provided teachers with one of the most helpful resources online: Certification Map. Certification Map makes the process of becoming a teacher crystal clear. With an accessible homepage that features a map of the United States, future teachers can select the particular state they intend to teach in and will find all the information relevant to teacher certification in that state. The message of Certification Map is simple: If you want to become a teacher, it should be easy to understand the process.

TeacherTube
As you have probably guessed, TeacherTube is YouTube for teachers. Today, we know that students learn in a variety of different ways. We have visual learners, auditory learners, hands-on learners and students who fall someplace in between. TeacherTube allows teachers to access educational video content in order to convey concepts in a dynamic way. Instead of merely explaining how RNA is synthesized from DNA, a biology teacher can show the class what that process looks like. Instead of only reading about colonial Boston, students can go on a virtual tour of the city’s historical sites.

Teachade, Certification Map and TeacherTube are only three of the great resources out there for teachers. If you know of any more, comment here and tell us about it!
